Can you believe a referee tackling an american football player? In his defense Wilbur Hacket Jr. said that he was just protecting himself from the south Caroline quarterback Stephen Garcia! lOl ... Hacket Jr. played linebacker at Kentacky from 67-70 hence his easyness in tackling .... XD

Eric Moussambani

Now that everybody talks about the Phelp's eight gold medals (his sponsor Speedo is gonna pay him 1 million $ for that) is time to remember that thing that happened in the 2000 olympic games in Sidney with Moussambani, the swimer from Equatorial Guinea.
Moussambani, got his world fame when he swam the 100m. free style in 112 seconds, more than the double than his rivals and even greater than the 200 world record. The guinean got to classify for the Olympic Games without haven the minimum required qualification marks thanks to the system, then designed to allow the participation of sportsmen from undeveloped countries.
In his heat he had the "fortune" that his two rivals got disqualified for false start, so he swam alone. It wasn't easy to complete the swim, since before to go to Sidney, he never had seen a 50m olympic pool. He used to train in a 22m hotel swimming pool. With some struggel he finished the 100m with all the cheering from the audience. REMARKABLE!!

the real olympic medals table!

Channel 4 offers an alternative olympic medal tables. It is remarkable that in the table ordered by the population Bahamas is in the top of the list with 1 silver and 1 bronze having a population of 0.31 million. China falls to the 66th place, USA to the 45th and Rusia to the 36th.
Another possible table would be this one, where EU is the first!! xD
US ordering sorts the table by total numbers of medals, as many US networks, so they can be number 1... hahahaha... Must be humilliating to be number 2... xD
And finally a revealling video about the opening ceremony... FAKE FIREWORKS!!

The Evolution of Mobile Phones

You’re bound to recognise a few mobile phones from your past as we take you from 1985 to the present day; and you can even learn a few interesting facts along the way.

For instance, did you know the first mobile phone to feature an internal camera was the Sharp J-SH04, released in Japan in 2001? Or that the billionth Nokia ever sold was a Nokia 1100, purchased in Nigeria, a model designed to be dust-proof for use in dusty, developing countries?

Starting with the earliest Nokia and Motorola handsets and ending with the Nokia N95 and Apple iPhone, we also give you a glimpse into the future, with a few concept phones that may make your current mobile look dated within a couple of years!

Beer bottle solar heater

A Chinese peasant has made a solar water heater - using only beers bottles and hoses.

The beer bottles lie on a board in rows, all connected by hoses which allow cold water to flow through them and be heated by the sun.

"I invented this for my mother. I wanted her to shower at any time more comfortably," says Ma Yanjun, a carpenter, of Qiqiao village, Shaanxi Province.

"A real solar water heater is too expensive to me, so I came up with the idea of making one on my own.

"I hope this invention can be promoted nationwide, and allow mothers in undeveloped rural areas to have a hot shower."

Ma has now helped more than 20 families in the village to make and install their own beer bottle solar water-heaters. He says he will build a public bathroom for the village using his invention when he has the money to buy enough beers.

FITNA

Anti-Koran film on the net. Produced by the Dutch politician Geert Wilders.

Entitled "Fitna", the short film intersperses footage of acts of terrorism with sayings from the Koran and begins with one of the cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad whose publication in Denmark provoked large and violent protests in several countries.

Fitna was posted on the Internet at 7 p.m. Thursday 27th March via a site called LiveLeak and received 1.2 million hits within an hour.

Before it begins, viewers are warned that they may see shocking images, including pictures of terrorist attacks in New York and Madrid. The film, about 16 minutes long, quotes several verses attributed to the Koran that appear to suggest violence toward non-Muslims, including a warning that "those who have disbelieved our signs, we shall roast in fire."

Fitna - Arabic for "ordeal" - ends with pages being turned, followed by the sound of tearing. This, says text on the screen, was the sound of a page being torn from a phone book, adding: "It is not up to me, but up to the Muslims themselves to tear the spiteful verses from the Koran."

Watch it!

The torture playlist

Here goes something amazing! The north american political magazine "Mother Jones" has published a playlist for tortures... lOl ... They explain that the music is used in north american military prisons to induce sleep deprivation, "prolong capture shock," disorient detainees during interrogations—and also drown out screams! Amongst the most recommended songs we can find Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica and so on. Wouldn't be a torture for me at all :D

And here goes a couple of videos. The first one is music composed only with mac sounds ... pretty good but amazingly the music using ONLY sounds from Windows XP and 98 is better ... for once! :D

The origin of the traffic lights

On 10 December 1868, the first traffic lights were installed outside the British Houses of Parliament in London, to allow MP to cross the street! It had a couple of semaphore arms and red and green gas lamps for night use. The gas lantern was turned with a lever at its base so that the appropriate light faced traffic. but the invention didn't last because unfortunately, it exploded on 2 January 1869, injuring the policeman who was operating it... babooooommmm ... It was removed and until 1914 it wasn't installed a traffic signal on the corner of 105th Street and Euclid Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio, what is known as the first traffic light in history. But why since the beginning the colors have been always red, green and later yellow?? Why not blue or ... pink ?! Very simple. The red color represents in nature a warning signal, alarm, signal. The reason is the long wavelength of the red color, and gets fast into the eyes (blue is a short wavelength color). Green is a red complementary color, and that's why was also chosen. The yellow was added later because after the red is the color with longer wavelength. Moreover, in every country of the world, the red color is either on the top or to the left, so it can be interpreted by the color blind persons ... and in every country of the world the traffic lights are the same annoying!

walk vs wait

For decades the humanity is debating the dilemma of to wait for the bus or to start walking those times that you have the feeling that the transport public won´t ever come ... Is it better wait or walk? How long do we have to wait? Depends on the distance? On the bus frequency? ... A group of scientist have found the solution. A study called Walk vs Wait, confirms that the best mathematic strategy is ( drums!!! ) ... WAIT! According to them this theory it works most of the times, excluding the extreme cases (bus frequency 1 hour and distance less than a mile) ... So, you know, if some day you are waiting for the bus and you have the temptation of walking, you will be making an error according to the mathematics, although as Einstein says, when the Mathematics refer to the reality they aren´t true, and when they are true, they aren´t referred to the reality ... lOl

P.S. For your next birthday party do not forget to hire the authentic spider-man!

a new way of advertise ...

Since few days ago, the people who walks in Prince Street, Sojo, NY, can hear clearly a voice whispering : "Who's there? Who's There? It's not your imagination" ... If after the fright they still have some energy to look up, they'll see a huge poster that announces the new tv show "Paranormal State". It's everything a publicity campaign organized by the company holosonics, who's done a device able to make the people to listen a voice in a individual way, like if someone talks from inside your head. This technology is called audio spotlight, that creates sound in a narrow beam and aiming the waves till the desired person allows him to be the only one who listens the message. It's the first time that this technology is used for publicity, and of course, there have been already some critics in the US, cuz the messages are an imposition and the subject can't choose to listen or not. From now on, if someones whispers into your ears, and there is no one, calm , it's an advertisement (It's not your imagination)

Altought it can be used in a nice way too!

After Paul Potts ...

After the success of the mobile's salesman opera singer Paul Potts, with more 20M of views, that all of you remember, the truth is that we are in a dry season, I mean ... that ... there are no many phenomenas like this in the net, nevertheless I bring you two that are being quite successful, but nothing compared to Paul Potts ....
The first one called Chocolate Rain is sung by a black lad, who's become very very rich. The second one is as well advisable cuz is quite funny to watch, is a curios song, by a man, already grown up, called Tom Willet. He says wants to do a protest song, but not asking for peace and things like that ... more porno, more masochists and more pop-up windows!! (those small emergent windows so so so annoying)

And finally, again something that only the Japanese can do ... awesome!

The movies...

I have gone to the pictures this week, and has been quite disappointing. The first one was "The Golden Compass" (I know, a bit late!). Maybe I was expecting too much. Daniel Craig barely appears in the movie, the Church is called the Magisterium, I prefer Nikole Kidman acting as a good sweety girl, but I have to say that Sam Elliot makes a brilliant contribution and the special effects are acceptable. It's more like a movie for children when was suppose to be the new lord of the rings trilogy. Let's hope that the second part will be better. The other disappointing movie I have seen is "Aliens vs Predator - Requiem". As always there is no plot and no sense in most of the movie. They need more than half movie to kill the first alien, and then in the end they kill a bunch of them! The only good point was to see children and pregnant women being attacked by the aliens, usually in these sort of movies they never die :)

Three promising coming movies are "Perfect Creature", "The Jumper" and "Cloverfield". The latter one written by Drew Goddard, who also wrote Lost (thumbs up) and Buffy (oh goosh!). The Jumper, by Doug Liman (The Bourne Ultimatum, Mr and Mrs Smith), looks like a watchable movie, but I'm guessing is an american happy ending movie :P And finally another vampires movie, Perfect Creature, still squeezing the orange... sort of vampire bending space-time as Hiro Nakamura.
Here goes a video of Phillip Pullman talking about Religion and Theology. but I think the best is to read his website and his opinion about Religion.

BAck, Back, back ...

Long holidays this Christmas ... lOl ... and plenty promises for this new year. Let's see how the new year treat us!
Amazing things happening so far:
Amazing num.1 : Yesterday, in the the news, emergency landing of the British Airways Boeing 777 in Heathrow airport! And unbelivable was to hear a passenger saying "We thought it was just a bumpy landing". By the way, the plane came from Beijing, my next destination, cross fingers...
Amazing num. 2: To read Hilary Clinton comments about Bill : " I never doubted Bill's love". How someone can be so ignorant? Well, it is a candidate to the US presidency, what did you expect?
Amazing num. 3: Fashion. It keeps surprising me (look a the picture). Many people would say that is art, is cool, new stuff ... sorry, who is gonna dress like a transparent strawberry candy?
